Job TitleCancer Registry Data Analyst / Cancer Registry Specialist
Job SummaryThis is a full-time contract position at the State Cancer Registry with a hybrid work schedule (3 days onsite, 2 days remote) . The position reports to the Cancer Registry Director and supports cancer surveillance activities by managing, validating, and maintaining cancer-related data while ensuring accuracy, confidentiality, and compliance with applicable regulations.
Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesFile incoming cancer data reports from healthcare facilities, including electronic storage of faxed and mailed documentation
Conduct death clearance follow-back activities in accordance with registry protocols (training and orientation provided; task begins in April)
Perform data pulls for virtually pooled registry requests from the research community and national agencies for approved studies (training and orientation provided)
Update and maintain cancer reporting healthcare facility contact information within registry software systems, including SEER*DMS and Web Plus
Participate in the development and standardization of registry policies and procedures, including co-authoring Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) under guidance
Ensure compliance with agency policies, regulatory requirements, and HIPAA standards
Provide exceptional customer service to internal staff, healthcare facilities, and approved external stakeholders
Bachelor's degree required
Minimum two (2) years of experience in roles involving data collection and management in healthcare or healthcare administration
Proficiency in Microsoft Enterprise tools ( Word, Excel, Teams ) and the ability to quickly learn new software systems
Strong written communication skills with the ability to prepare technically accurate correspondence and reports
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Strong attention to detail with the ability to maintain accuracy and confidentiality
Demonstrated teamwork and collaboration skills
Knowledge of HIPAA compliance requirements
Certification as an Oncology Data Specialist (ODS) (formerly Certified Tumor Registrar CTR)
Prior experience working as a Cancer Registrar
Experience with cancer registry systems such as SEER*DMS and Web Plus

Work involves standardized operations requiring the application of agency policies, laws, and regulations to varying case scenarios
The incumbent works independently and is responsible for the quality, accuracy, and confidentiality of assigned work
Expected to collaborate with agency personnel and related stakeholders to complete assigned responsibilities
